Mary Ellen Weiland, 84, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. Visitation will be from
4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence, with a rosary service at
7 p.m. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery.
Mary Ellen was born July 28, 1933, in Creston, Neb., to Ray and Rose Thomas Koch. She was united in marriage to Leonard Weiland on Feb. 8, 1955, in Battle Creek, Neb. He passed away June 27, 1997.
Survivors include three sons, Tom (Dawn) of Stanwood, Chuck (Kathy) of Remsen and Mike (Laurie) of Madison, Wis.; sister, Margaret (Bill) Reisdorf of Battle Creek; brothers, Bob (Kay) Hoffman of Endicott, N.Y., and Larry (Barb) Hoffman of Norfolk, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Charlotte Jones of Columbus, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Fred Hoffman; husband; son, Eugene; daughter, Betty; one sister; and four brothers.
Faith and family were the most important things to Mary Ellen. She liked to bake, cook, quilt, play the piano and was a Cubs fan. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's women's guild. Leonard and Mary Ellen moved from Nebraska to Stanwood in 1958.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Manor, St. Luke's Hospice, St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Tipton or Stanwood Ambulance.
