MARY KATHRYN IREY
Coralville
Mary Kathryn Irey, 66, died peacefully at home Thursday, Oct. 4, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
A celebration of life will be held at
11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Grace Community Church, North Liberty, with
the Rev. Brooks Simpson officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Coralville American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Mary was born on Feb. 8, 1952, in Iowa City, the daughter of Maurice and Kathryn Rummelhart Keeley. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Central Junior High School, and graduated from Regina High School. On June 7, 2002, Mary married Richard Irey.
Mary was employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics' Hospital School, now known as the Center for Disabilites and Development, from 1977 to 2017. She was secretary to several administrators and later transferred to Human Resources. Mary loved her job providing services to the staff, patients, and their families, before her retirement.
If someone needed something, big or small, Mary made it her mission to make sure that their need was met.
Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren, Patrick and Reagan, and cheering on their activities. She enjoyed having drinks and laughs with friends and annual trips to Las Vegas with her best friend, Dawn. Providing birthday and holiday memories for her family were of most importance. Her smile would light up the room.
Mary attended Grace Community Church, where she worshipped and volunteered.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of Coralville; her son, Sean Seaton and his children, Patrick and Reagan; siblings, Kathy Cornish, David Keeley (Darren Peterson) and Jean Keeley; niece, Elizabeth; nephews, Darryl and Steven; and extended family.
