Six businesses and a corporate innovation team have entered the Iowa Startup Accelerator 2016 Cohort.
The six start-up businesses, selected from more than 200 applications, will take part in an intensive 95-day program that concludes with a launch event on Nov. 3. They will be matched with mentors as well as receive $20,000 each in seed funding and development expertise to take them from concept to successful launch.
David Tominsky, Iowa Startup Accelerator managing director, said three of the companies are led by women CEOs and half have participated in University of Iowa's Venture School program.
'Two of the companies — AMP'd and Written Apparel — want to build a product that's made in the United States,' Tominsky said. 'Understand that there are some challenges with that, but the focus of this cohort is 'Iowa-based, built in the United States.''
The start-ups — all from Iowa — and their teams include:
AMP'd Cycles of Cedar Rapids (smart bicycles creating a safer experience for cyclists) Kyle Gatzmeyer (CEO/co-founder), Nik Dupuis-Lund (social media manager) Grant Kamin (lead mobile app developer), Bruce Lehrman (co-founder);
