Man charged in Cedar Rapids assault case

UPDATE: After being assaulted inside of his home Wednesday afternoon, a Cedar Rapids man has been charged for firing a gun at his assailants.
According to police, Kent Wade, 40, of 1042 11th Street NE, was accosted inside his house by a group of five or six people. Stephen Garrett was also beat by the same group around 1:30 p.m. After the beating Wade fired his weapon as the group fled the northeast Cedar Rapids house.
Wade and Garret were both taken to St. Luke's Hospital after the incident, where they were treated and released for injuries suffered in the beating.
For his part in Wednesday's incident, Wade was arrested and charged with carrying weapons and reckless use of a firearm. Police are still investigating the assault of Wade and Garrett.
The Police commander on duty was not immediately available for comment about that investigation.
Wade remains in the Linn County Jail. His bond is set at $13,000.
