                                    Scanlan, JoAnn
JoAnn Scanlan, 76, of Cedar Rapids, beloved wife, mother and sister, died at Mercy Medical Center on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis. Her funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church, celebrated by the Rev. David O'Connor. Inurnment will be at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Joann is survived by her husband, Jack; daughters, Lisa (Bill) Getz of Fairfax Station, Va., and Karen Scanlan of Marion; a brother, Robert (Peggy) Naughton of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Kay Naughton of Bedford, Texas and Jackie Naughton of San Diego, Calif.; and a special aunt and uncle, Marge and Bill Travis of Cedar Rapids.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jim and Dick Naughton; and sister, Joyce Naughton.
JoAnn was a vivacious, outgoing woman who gave of herself to others, having a special place in her heart for the handicapped. She was actively involved in Discovery Living because of her beloved handicapped daughter, Karen. In addition, she was a decades-long volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, where she achieved lifetime membership. JoAnn also volunteered at The History Center.
JoAnn was strong in her Catholic faith, a loyal alum of the old Immaculate Conception High School, and a member of All Saints Catholic Church, St. Monica's Circle and St. Martha's Circle. She was also active in the Civil War Roundtable.
Anyone who knew JoAnn knew her passion for tennis. She played at least three times a week at Elmcrest Country Club for the last 28 years. She had numerous longtime friends harking from the many areas of her life.
Her quick flashing smile, sense of humor, and smiling Irish eyes will always be remembered.
JoAnn was born June 20, 1934, in Parnell, Iowa, to Roland and Laurine Naughton. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1952. She then graduated from the X-ray Technician Program at Mercy Hospital in 1954. She worked for Orthopedic Surgeons in Cedar Rapids for many years.
The family requests memorials be directed to Discovery Living and/or All Saints Catholic Church.
