Swanie Dollmeyer, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at her home. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at New Apostolic Church, 2930 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Robert Guderian. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church on
Saturday. Private family burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Born July 14, 1924, in Billings, Mont., Swanie was the daughter of Louis and Nellie (Deleeuw) Heidema. She was united in marriage to Roland Dollmeyer on Jan. 17, 1954, in Billings.
Swanie was a loving, devoted helpmate and mother, who filled her life with serving others. She loved sewing, baking fresh bread and was known for her
iced tea and homemade
apple pie. Preparing big meals for company brought her great joy and children always held a special place in her heart. Her life was untiringly dedicated to serving the Lord by playing the organ and singing in the choir.
Survivors include her husband, Roland; her daughter, Peggy Roberts of Salinas, Calif.; son, Larry (Marcia) Dollmeyer of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; nine great-grand-children; and many nieces and nephews.
Swanie was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Ed, Pete, George, Jack, Louis and Henry Heidema, Ida Fisher and Jo, Nellie and Betty Heidema.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Iowa Hospice and Alyssa, Janet and everyone from Hospice Compassus for the care given to Swanie.
Memorials may be made in Swanie's memory to the New Apostolic Church or Hospice Compassus.
