Donald D. Turner, 80, of Marion, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 10, 2018, surrounded by his family. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion, officiated by Pastor Linda Livingston. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Don was born Aug. 22, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Hurshel and Chloe (Longfellow) Turner. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on Nov. 14, 1957. Don was united in marriage to Zepha Davis on Nov. 14, 1959. He was a longtime police officer, serving with the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Anamosa Police Department and with the Marion Police Department until his retirement in 1994. He was then a dispatcher until 1999. Don was a member of Marion American Legion Post 298, Ascension Lutheran Church in Marion and the Iowa Police Association.
He is survived by his wife, Zepha; children, Thomas Turner of Marion, Todd (Jane) Turner of Springville, Tracey (Kelly) Kirby of Tea, S.D., and Trisha Turner of Marion; grandchildren, Megan (Bryan) Bulman, Nathan Turner, Morgan Thenhaus, T.J. Kirby and Jordon Turner; great-grandchild, Kashton Bulman; and sister, Mari (Kenny) Kucera of Iowa City.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dean, Lee and Gene Turner; and sisters, Anna Boyle, Arlene Wilcoxson and Vivian Winkie.
