Peter Kapfer, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by the Rev. Kenneth J. Glaser. Military honors provided by American Legion 727. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may
visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Peter is survived by his children, Kristina (Joe) Zampa of Plainfield, Ill., Michelle (Arlan) Holten of Cedar Rapids and Gregory (Patty) Kapfer of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen (Roger) Marks of Lisbon; brother, Tommy (Teresita) Kapfer of Libertyville, Ill.; sister in law, Carol Kapfer of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Robert Kahler of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Louie (Zelda) Kapfer and Richard Kapfer; and three sisters, Patty (Robert) Kahler, Joyce (Richard) Brack and Judy (Bill) Behrens.
Peter was born April 9, 1933, in Iowa City, the son of Louis and Clara Volk Kapfer. He graduated from Oxford High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. On Sept. 1, 1955, he married Ernestine Wiery in Salzburg, Austria. Peter worked in trucking and transportation for the Briggs Co. for many years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
Peter had a gift of the gab, and enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking and skiing. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids. Peter was especially proud to have been part of the Honor Flight with his son, Greg.
