IOWA CITY - Iowa athletics reported a $146,593 surplus from its trip to the TaxSlayer Bowl after last football season.
The school received a $2 million stipend from the Big Ten Conference for its participation on Jan. 2. The school's expenses totaled $1,853,407. The revenue stays in the athletics department's general fund.
Iowa had a deficit of $265,553 after last year's Outback Bowl. The Big Ten provided a smaller budget last year ($1.825 million) and the department spent $77,000 more in meals and lodging costs. Iowa's transportation costs were slighty higher to the Jacksonville, Fla.-based TaxSlayer Bowl but staff ticket costs were down $45,000.
Tennessee beat Iowa 45-28 in the game.
