Sullivan, James (Jim) Edward
James (Jim) Edward Sullivan, 86, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Crestview Acres in Marion, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. and again after 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anna; four children, Ken (Julie) of O'Fallon, Mo., Kathy (Terry) Sedlacek of Walford, Steve (Jean) of Grand Junction, Colo., and Chris of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Lisa (Andy) Vedder of Milwaukee, Wis., Angie Sedlacek of Norway, Scott Sullivan of St. Charles, Mo., Rene Sedlacek of Walford, Wes (Laura) Sedlacek of Cedar Rapids, and Mike (Cory) Sedlacek of Carol Stream, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Melody Sedlacek, Ethan Sedlacek, Mia Sedlacek-Owen, Noah Vedder and Claire Vedder; his sisters, Donna Wagner and Mary Ann Fabricius; and brothers, Jerry Sullivan and Marc Sullivan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
His parents; brothers, Donald, Thomas, George and John; and sisters, Marcella Harwick, Bernadine Trout and Marguerite Miller, preceded Jim in death.
James was born on March 27, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, to Frank and Margaret (Elgas) Sullivan. Jim was part of the 369th Harbor Craft Company serving in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines and Luzon during World War II and was part of the Occupational Force after the surrender of Japan. Jim married Anna Kohles on Nov. 24, 1948, in Immaculate Conception Church, Elma, Iowa. Jim was employed at Quaker Oats from 1946 to 1986. Jim enjoyed traveling, fishing, golf, spending time with family and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
The family would like to thank Crestview Acres and Essence of Life Hospice for their care and patience through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in Jim's name.
