Sellner, James 'Jim'
James “Jim” Sellner, 71, of Manchester, formerly of Earlville, died Jan. 19, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earlville, by the Rev. Noah Diehm. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Earlville, where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Additional visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home before the Mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.
Jim was born Nov. 25, 1941, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Dorothy (Kelchen) Sellner. He served in the National Guard before taking over the family farm. On Sept. 3, 1966, he was united in marriage to Carlyn Manternach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade.
Jim spent all his life farming until his retirement in 2004.
Jim enjoyed bowling, golf, playing cards, traveling, and riding on his 4-wheeler. He especially enjoyed nature and spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carlyn; six children, Angie (Keith) Mort of Fletcher, N.C., Chris (Rhonda) Sellner of Swisher, Kurt Sellner of Cedar Rapids, Corey (Beth) Sellner of Marion, Scott (Nichole) Sellner of Cedar Rapids and Amy Sellner of Aurora, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Colin, Kyle, Carson, Miranda, Alaina, Aubrey and Paige Sellner; brothers and sisters, Germaine (Gib) Goedken of Dubuque, Irvin (Donna) Sellner of Earlville, Delores (Jim) Burkle of Earlville, Don (Bonnie) Sellner of Delaware, John (Ann) Sellner of St. Paul, Minn., Carol (Merlin) Krapfl of Ryan and David (Carol) Sellner of Dubuque; and brother-in-law, Ray Geistkemper of Dyersville.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janita Sellner; a sister, Mildred Geistkemper; and four nephews.
