With international renown, the Philadelphia Orchestra has created a legacy of musical innovation. The orchestra performed in the original Hancher Auditorium shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, with a stirring performance of 'America the Beautiful.” Under the baton of music director Yannick Nezet-Seguin, the ensemble's debut performance in the new Hancher Auditorium will feature Muhly's Suite from 'Marnie”; Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, with soloist Lisa Batiashvili; and Rachmaninoff's 'Symphonic Dances.” The orchestra has a long history of touring, and in 1973, became the first American orchestra to perform in the People's Republic of China.
