PEGE MCDONALD
Cedar Rapids
Pege McDonald, who lost the love of her life 42 years ago, but channeled her own devotion toward their five children, and a life marked by laughter, joy, a sharp intellect, unending kindness and a wonderful sense of humor, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was 92.
Though her beloved husband, Larry, preceded her in death, she was always able, to those lucky enough to have known her, to be whatever they needed at that moment in their lives: a listener, a friend, a travel companion, a loving mother, a deep well of calm, a perfect grand-mother, a friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Pege is survived by her five children, Peggy McDonald (Bob Mowen) of Schaumburg, Ill., Larry (Diane) McDonald of North Liberty, Jane Anne (Lloyd) McCabe of Appleton, Wis., Maureen (David) Reiter of Columbia, Mo., and Michael McDonald of San Francisco, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Paula, David, Ashley, Larry, Shannon, John, Jennifer, Megan, Michael, Julia, Bill, Bob and Katherine; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Larry and her grandson, Ryan Reis McCabe.
Pege was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Hackensack, N.J., the daughter of Charles H. and Margaret J. Reis. It was a life well-lived. She will be sorely missed and beautifully remembered.
