Gary Kranse
GARY KRANSE
Cedar Rapids
Gary B. Kranse, 55, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Castlerock, Colo., died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, 1400 Inspiration Place SW, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carolynn Clementi Kranse; his parents, Harold and Virginia Kranse of Cheyenne, Wyo.; his children, Jordan J. Kranse, Kameron C. Kranse and Madison A. Kranse; and his sisters, Barb Robertson (Carter) and Ann Seacrest (Steve).
Gary was a people person. He always put others ahead of himself. He had three kids, Jordan, Kameron and Madi, whom he loved dearly. He taught his family to be smart and strong, and that any problem can be tackled with a positive attitude.
Gary was a fun seeker. He would ski down a mountain like a speed demon, but was terrified of roller coasters. He loved music, and loved to share it with anyone that would, or was forced, to listen.
He loved the outdoors and nothing was better than a day on the lake with friends. Gary was like glue, and he had a way of bringing people together. He taught everyone he touched the value of a laugh.
We love him very much.
Gary moved to Cedar Rapids in November 2013, to work as the director of Community Development and Planning for the City of Cedar Rapids. He was proud of his new role in the community and loved Cedar Rapids and the people he worked with.
Co-workers and community members were drawn to his positive attitude and fun spirit, and he quickly formed many friendships.
He was truly a visionary, spearheading the development of the city's new Comprehensive Plan – EnvisionCR. Through Gary's leadership, EnvisionCR was launched to Cedar Rapids residents in March 2014, encouraging citizens to share their ideas for Cedar Rapids and creating new energy for the future of the com-munity.
Gary was a phenomenal boss, co-worker, employee and friend.
He loved his wife, Carolynn; and his children and bragged about them often.
Through organ donation, Gary was able to give many others the opportunity for a new start at life, which exemplifies his giving spirit and generosity towards others. He will be incredibly missed by so many.
