Gareth (Gary) Davis,
83, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at Meth-Wick Retirement Community after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Friends may call one hour before the service Friday at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie (Hogue) Davis; daughter, Ann Davis; son-in-law, David Chu; and grandchildren, Charlotte and Callan.
He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip; and brothers, Elwin and Harold.
Born in Dubuque, Iowa, to Wilber and Hazel (Ackley) Davis, he was a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids. Gary attended Iowa State University where he met, then married Marjorie in 1955. Gary spent his entire 35-year engineering career at Rockwell Collins. Gary and his family have been longtime members of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Gary enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and was often found fixing things around his home or "puttering" in the yard. He enjoyed woodworking and electronics, building a TV in earlier years. He was a truly devoted husband and father and found great joy in his two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Matthew 25, a local neighborhood improvement organization (hub25.org) or the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church (lovelylane.org).
