Gary Lee Michel, 63, of 1906 E Ave. NW, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Jude Cath-olic Church, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday after noon.
Gary is survived by three sons, Chad, Jason (Melecia) and Jeff (Michelle), all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Jessica, Haley, Alexis, Ryan, Ashlynn and Clayton; four brothers, Greg (Glenda) Michel and Bob (Barb) Michel, both of Cedar Rapids, Don (Sue) Michel of Fairfax and Dan (Deb) Michel of Canton, Ga.; a sister, Mary Ann (Jeff) Denny of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Bill Kirk of Alburnett; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pat Kirk; and a niece, Ann Marie Donovan.
Gary was born July 9, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Gregory and Mabel (Silver) Michel. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1968. Gary was co-owner of Rapids Vending and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Gary loved his family, his work and especially talking with people on his route. He was fascinated by trains and cars and liked everything Disney.
