Dippel Sr., Gary Lee
Gary Lee Dippel Sr., 75, of Urbana, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Family will greet friends one hour before the service and request casual attire. Private family burial at a later date.
Survivors include his children, Cynthia (Mike) McCullough of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Vickie) Dippel Jr. of Marion, Terry Dippel of Cedar Rapids and Larry Dippel (Vicki Murphy) of Hiawatha; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Jack Spencer of Vinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Mae Dippel in 2006; his parents; and a brother, Vernon.
Gary was born March 4, 1936, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Edward and Anna (Adams) Dippel. On Oct. 4, 1953, Gary was united in marriage to Juanita Mae Paulsen in Belmond.
Gary loved metal detecting, bowling, collectibles, cards and coins. Gary was an avid artist in his early years. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes, and St. Louis Cardinals.
