Anderson, Scharlene Rose
Scharlene Rose Anderson, 83, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at her home in Vinton following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton with Pastor Mark C. Urlaub officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Scharlene was born April 28, 1929, in Atkins, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Martha Williams Schlotterback. She graduated from Shellsburg High School and attended college for a time before her marriage.
On Aug. 28, 1954, Scharlene was united in marriage with Carl E. Anderson at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1987.
Scharlene worked at Virginia Gay Hospital in Central Supply for 30 years, retiring in August of 1999. She had been a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton for 59 years. Scharlene enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by three sons, Brad, Scott and Brent Anderson, all of Vinton; two daughters, Carol (Jerry) Messamer of Marengo and Roxie (Gary) Harrelson of Vinton; one sister, Ruth “Genny” Krohn of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Charles, Rodger and Keith Schlotterback; and one great-granddaughter, Allie Messamer.
A memorial fund has been established.
Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home of Vinton is caring for Scharlene and her family.
