Arlene M. Eckhart, 90, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Virginia Gay Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., in Vinton from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
A memorial fund has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton.
Arlene was born Sept. 26, 1923, near Van Horne to Harry and Helen (Schult) Hanneman, and graduated in 1942 from Vinton's Lincoln High School. On Aug. 4, 1944, she was united in marriage to Donald Eckhart in Lincoln, Neb. Arlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. For many years she owned and operated The Hamburger Inn in Vinton and enjoyed cooking, traveling and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald Eckhart of Vinton; her son, Larry Eckhart and friend Kathy Loeffelholz of Potosi, Wis.; her daughter, Linda (Dean) Ohrt of Traer; her grandchildren, Griffin Eckhart of Potosi, Wis., Andrea Riniker of Janesville, Wis., Daryl (Jessica) Ohrt of Marietta, Ga., and Dianne (Paul) Haywood of Union; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Robert (Nadine) Hanneman of Vinton.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Glenys Kirk.
