Jan Niebes, 66, died peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown with Pastor David Rempfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown.
Jan Bentzinger Niebes was born March 20, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Dean and Gladys McClain Bentzinger. She received her nursing degree from Kirkwood Community College. On Jan. 23, 1971, she married Ronnie Niebes in Iowa City. The couple lived and farmed in the Keystone area. Jan worked at Mercy Hospital, was the school nurse at Benton Community Schools and retired from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2012. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown. Jan enjoyed sewing, Iowa football and camping, but her family was the center of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie; her sons, Ben (Tricia) Niebes and Jake (Lindsay) Niebes, both of Blairstown; daughters, Katie (Tim) Hamilton of Luzerne and Betsie (Rod Brehm) Niebes of Woodbury, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Jessica and Dylan Niebes, Zach, Ethan and Ivan Hamilton, Caden and Laina Brehm and Jack and Hallie Niebes; brother, Rex (Kathy) Bentzinger of Coralville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tim Bentzinger; and sister-in-law, Karla Niebes.
A memorial fund has been established.
