Macku, Betty J.
Betty J. Macku, 80, of Blairstown, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness. Private graveside services will be held at Luzerne International Cemetery in Luzerne. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown.
Betty Jean Soiney was born Jan. 24, 1930, in Denver, Colo., to Daurice F. and Lela M Soiney. She was a 1948 graduate of Belle Plaine High School. She was united in marriage to Lumir C. Macku on Oct. 7, 1949. The couple farmed near Luzerne before moving to Blairstown in 1963.
Betty is survived by her children, Jeanne Kochuyt of Ladora, Charles (Cynthia) Macku of Cedar Rapids, Brenda (Joe) Notch of Blairstown, Jeff (Paula) Macku of Swisher, and Randy (Melissa) Macku of Blairstown; her grandchildren, Marie Homan, Laura Kochuyt, Brook Kugley, Ashley Sawdey, Maddie Notch, Felicia Macku and Travis Macku; and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Homan, Bobbi Beck and Michael Kugley. She is also survived by her brothers, Carroll (Kathryn) Miner of Belle Plaine and Leland (Sally) Miner of Cedar Rapids.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Bernard Miner; her husband, Lumir; her son-in-law, Larry Kochuyt; her cousin, Rosa Lee Martin; and her pen pal of 50 years, Pat Cocklin of Wapello.
Betty enjoyed writing letters to friends and family and creating handmade greeting cards with her stampers.
