McCormick, Lawrence 'Larry'
Lawrence “Larry” McCormick, 71, of Marion, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Kruse officiating. Visitation will be held, before the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Oak Shade Cemetery. Cedar Memorial is assisting the family.
Larry was born Nov. 25, 1941, to Earl and Lucille Lusk McCormick in Charles City, Iowa. Larry graduated from Loras College and achieved his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Alice Findlay on June 12, 1965, in Cedar Rapids. Larry worked as an engineering manager at Rockwell Collins for 37 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Larry was proud to be Irish and enjoyed cheering for Notre Dame and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed reading and vacationing in Door County, Wis. Last year he enjoyed a memorable Alaskan cruise.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47½ years, Alice; sons, Mark McCormick and Michael (Sheri) McCormick; and special grandchildren, twins, Braedon and Noah and Emerson, all of Marion; sisters, Elizabeth (James) Stuart of Neenah, Wis. and Judy (Clyde) Bailey of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Jerry (Marilyn) Findlay of Troy Mills; sisters-in-law, Denise (Brad) Willhite of Cedar Rapids and Debra Jackson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
