Dorothy (Hills) Franks, 83, died at her son's home Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, after a long illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Oakland Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: one hour before the service. Burial: Circle Grove Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Dorothy was born Nov. 22, 1932, in Nora Springs, to Leonard and Gladys (Anderson) Shanks. She married Harold "Archie" Hills on Nov. 26, 1950. They had four children. Archie passed away in 1993. On April 24, 1994, Dorothy married Mikeal Franks. She was a homemaker, and was an active member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene until her illness.
Survivors include her husband, Mikeal; sons, Patric (Janel Drtina) Hills and Mark (Becky) Hills; stepsons, Dan (Deb) Franks, Jerry Franks, Tim (Elaina) Franks, John (Sara) Franks and Steve Franks; stepdaughters, Kitty (Mark) Simcox and Laura and Rachel Franks; brothers, Burton, David and Glenn Shanks; 25 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harold "Archie" Hills; sons, Michael and Steve Hills; daughter-in-law, Debra Hills; stepson, Mikeal Franks Jr.; stepdaughter, Emily Sherman; brothers, George, Earl, Larry and Howard Shanks; and sister, Esther Ford.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
