Engelbart, Don J.
Don J. Engelbart, 87, of Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab in Belle Plaine, formerly of Marion, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Rehab Center after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Vera, a resident of Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab; four daughters, Karen (Robert) Bradley of Cedar Rapids, Reta (Jerry) Slaymaker of Guernsey, Joyce (Rey) Bray of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Donna (Michael) Stark of Swisher; and a brother, Wayne (Vera) of Lincoln, Neb. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Lonnie.
Don was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Princeton, Neb., the son of John and Helen Schnake Engelbart. He married Vera F. Mills on March 7, 1942, in Chicago. Don drove truck for several trucking firms for over 40 years, most recently for Heartland Express until his retirement. He was a member of the Belle Plaine Congregational Church and proudly served as an Army paratrooper during World War II.
A memorial fund has been established in Don's name.
