Mills, Gordon E.
Gordon E. Mills, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl; stepdaughter, Lorene (Michael) Davis; stepson, James Kuehl; grandchildren, Tabitha (Ryan) Hackman, Kira Lewis, Jacob Lewis and Wyatt Lewis; great-grandchildren, Tyrek, Trevor, Teagan, Tanner, Shalia and Jace; brother, Wayne (Patsy) Mills; and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.
Born Oct. 9, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gordon was the son of Walter and Myrtle (Flanagan) Mills. Gordon served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On May 7, 1980, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Douda. He worked for Rockwell Collins for 41 years, retiring in 1992.
Gordon was a member of the VFW Post #788.
His greatest joy was spending time with his great grandchildren and his dogs.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gordon's memory.
