BONNIE MARIE (POTTEBAUM) SAWYER
Clarence
Bonnie Marie (Pottebaum) Sawyer, 65, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Clarence, passed peacefully at home with her family by her side on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, following a long illness.
Bonnie was born Oct. 14, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Cletus and Charlene (Hulbert) Pottebaum. Bonnie grew up in Mechanicsville and attended Lincoln High School, Kirkwood Community College and Mount Mercy College. She worked as an administrative assistant at Cedar-Johnson Farm Service Co., Agri-builders, the office of Dr. Frederick Drexler, D.D.S. and the Cedar County engineer's office. She was a member of the Clarence United Methodist Church and Iowa County Engineers Office Organization for many years. Bonnie will be remembered by her family and close friends as a person who was quick to smile, to offer a kind word and for her thoughtful gestures.
Bonnie is survived by her two daughters, Justine (Price Wetherill) of Denver and Christine (Michael Callahan) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandson, Sam Wetherill of Denver; mother, Charlene; brother, Michael; niece, Michele; and great-niece, Christina, all of Mechanicsville.
She was preceded in death by her father and nephew, Jason.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Suncrest Hospice, Christian Living Communities Home Care Services and Father Douglas Grandon of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish in Denver.
To honor her love of the warmth and fun of summer, a celebration of Bonnie's life is being planned in June. Private interment will be held at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids.
Memorial donations in memory of Bonnie may be made to www.hemochromatosis.org to support others fighting the disease or to the Iowa Department of Natural Resource Parks and Forestry to honor her love of natural places.
