Veryl Kaiser, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Walker United Methodist Church with the Rev. Annette K. Ruhs Kruse officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton.
A memorial fund has been established.
Veryl was born April 7, 1932, near Garrison, to Louis E. and Viola (Likens) Kaiser. He graduated from Garrison High School. On Nov. 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Hays at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton. The couple wintered in Arizona for many years, where Veryl enjoyed golfing and other activities.
Veryl farmed in his early years and later owned Kaiser Truck Tire Center in Cedar Rapids prior to his retirement in the mid-90s. He was a member of the Walker United Methodist Church and was an owner of a 1929 Model A. He was also a member of the Model A Club. He also enjoyed collecting antique wall clocks. Veryl loved his family very much and was proud of all of them.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Kaiser of Walker; his sons, Kenneth (Karen) Kaiser of Cedar Rapids and Joe (Janet Edler) Kaiser of Walker; his daughter, Susan (Alan) Bird of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Beryl (Gay) Kaiser of Cedar Rapids; his sisters, Barbara (Wayne) Merchant of Vinton and Kay (Ron) Sieler of Colorado; and sister-in-law, Selma Kaiser of Vinton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn and Louis Kaiser; and his sisters, Merldene Turner and Maxine Lockard.
