Zelma D. Kress, 96, of Quasqueton, died Monday evening, Nov. 3, 2014, at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence.
Zelma was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Guthrie County, Iowa, the daughter of Ed S. and Ulva A. (Downing) Miller. She moved with her family to the Rowley area where she graduated from the Rowley High School in 1935. On Feb. 13, 1937, she was married to Verle E. Kress in Quasqueton. The family lived in Independence, Rowley and Wyoming, Iowa, before returning to Quasqueton in 1954. Zelma was employed with the Mental Health Institute and Corn Blossom's in Independence and with Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, before retiring to take care of her family.
She enjoyed quilting, bowling, fishing and music but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are three children, Donita (Richard) Scott and Donald (Echo) Kress, both of Quasqueton, and Delores (Joe) McCann of Independence; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mable Gosse of Inde-pendence.
Zelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verle Kress in 1996; a son, Duane Kress; two sisters, Crystal Kress and Lauren Miller; and two brothers, Beryl and Marvin Miller.
Funeral services will
be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Union Church, Quasqueton, with the Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be in the Quasqueton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Quasqueton and from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the church.
