Machacek, Malvin 'Bud'
Malvin “Bud” Machacek, 92, of rural Winthrop, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence. He was born on May 24, 1918, in Linn County, the son of Vaclav “Wesley” and Pauline (Novak) Machacek. On August 21, 1940, he and the former Bonnie Beryl Reed were married in Waterloo. They farmed in Buchanan County. Mr. Machacek retired in 2005. Bonnie preceded him in death in 2009.
Mr. Machacek is survived by two sons, David (Marcy) Machacek of Alburnett, and Richard (Cheryl) Machacek of Winthrop; four grandchildren, Kristin (Ryan) Baker of St. Augustine, Fla., Stephanie (Bobby) Ascher of Marion, Jennifer Machacek of Fort Worth, Texas, and Andrew Machacek of Independence; and three great-grandchildren, Brennan Baker, Connor Baker and Dylan Ascher.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, with the Rev. Burr Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call for visitation after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
