Mildred Ohde
MILDRED OHDE
Keystone
Mildred (Millie) A. Ohde, 93, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at UnityPoint Hospice of St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She had been living at the Keystone Nursing Care Center for six years. Public graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the Keystone Cemetery.
Millie was born April 6, 1922, in Homer Township, near Keystone, to Herman and Katherine (Schuldt) Stein. On Dec. 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to Willard L. Ohde at a Presbyterian church in Waterloo. She was a member of Merkel-Bockholt Unit 107 American Legion Auxiliary of Keystone and the United Methodist Church in Elberon. Millie helped with farming and raising (especially feeding) three sons in Benton County until retiring from the farm and moving to Cedar Rapids.
Millie enjoyed traveling with her family, both while the boys were still at home and then with Willard after the boys flew the coop. She visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and several European countries. She enjoyed bowling, swimming, painting and golfing, but her family was always the central part of her life. As the family grew, she always had a way of making everyone feel like they belonged. She will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Julie) Ohde of Wapello, Jay (LuAnn) Ohde of Dysart and Jon (Karen) Ohde of Tulsa, Okla.; her grandchildren, Shawn, Chris, Rochelle, Heidi, Heath, Nick and Jane; and her great-grandchildren, Luke, Jared, Andre, Zachary, Brianna and Laiken.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; sisters, Francis Scott and Margaret Hamilton; and great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kristiana.
Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
