Ruth Ann Cahill, 87, of Waverly, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Ruth was born April 23, 1929, in Graettinger, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Mae (Boyle) Suss. She was raised in Graettinger, where she was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1947. On Aug. 25, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Patrick Cahill at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. During her life, Ruth worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a long distance operator and service representative in Mason City and in Rochester, Minn. She also was a secretary at Van Eaton Elementary School and Media Services at the central office for Waterloo Community Schools for 13 years, living in Waterloo and Denver, Iowa.
The couple then moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she worked as secretary in the counseling office at MacArthur High School until retirement. They retired in Horseshoe Bend, Ark. After Patrick passed away in May 1997, Ruth moved to Waverly, Iowa. In 2012, Ruth moved to assisted living in Dyersville and in 2014, moved to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community due to her failing health.
Ruth's memory is honored by three sons, Tim (Lois) Cahill of Worthington, Terry Cahill of Denver, Iowa, and Dave (Tracey) Cahill of Cedar Rapids; five grandsons, Ryan (Jill), Chad, Sean, Collin and Matthew Cahill; three granddaughters, Katlynn, Jordyn and Kiley Cahill; a great-grandson, Connor Cahill; a brother, Bud Suss of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Marge Schammel of Apple Valley, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Raymond, Howard and Paul Suss; and a sister, Mary Isaacson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Scripture service at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Rockwell.
