Gary L. Kent, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Northbrook Manor. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where visitation starts at noon. Certified Celebrant Jim Parton will officiate. Inurnment will take place in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, Tony Kent of Marion, Benjamin (Dawn) Kent of Frederick, Colo., and Steven (Linda) Kent of Cedar Rapids; his brothers, Lavere of Milledgeville, Iowa, and Walter of Clarksville, Iowa; his grandchildren, Spencer and Emily, both of Cedar Rapids, and Noah, Jonathan and Eliana, all of Frederick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bob and Lynne Kent.
Gary was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of William and Dorothy (Davis) Kent. He graduated from Webster High School in 1959 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1966. Gary taught high school for 12 years and later worked in franchise sales.
His passion was painting. He owned and operated Gary Kent Painting. He loved fishing and golfing and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeyes fan.
Gary served in the Army, spending most of his tour of duty in Germany.
