Walters, Joyce Loreen (Hartz)

Joyce Loreen (Hartz) Walters, 76, of Iowa City, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Oaknoll Care Center. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services also will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Marengo Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Joyce Loreen Hartz was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Ladora, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Leona (Kinzenbaw) Hartz. She was united in marriage to Wilbert H. Walters on Sept. 20, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed south of Victor and west of Williamsburg for many years. In 1976, the couple moved to Iowa City, where Joyce worked as an accountant for the University of Iowa for more than 25 years before retiring. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and a volunteer with Iowa City Hospice.

Her family includes her children, Diane Krishnamurti and Brent Walters; her grandchildren, Robert Holmes and Rachel Sorrentino; her great-grandchildren, Isaiah Ratcliff, Quincy Sorrentino and Luca Sorrentino; her sisters, Janice Young and JoAnn Dalton; and her sisters-in-law, Delores Leichty and Leona Wynne; as well as many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert in 2002.
