Hepker, Don Charles

Don Charles Hepker, 81, of rural Coggon, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Don was born April 23, 1931, near Toddville, Iowa, the son of Walter (Pete) and Olive G. (Oliphant) Hepker. He was a 1949 graduate of the Toddville High School. Following graduation he became employed with Wilson Foods (Farmstead Foods) in Cedar Rapids for 40 years before his retirement in 1971. He was also employed with Second Star Security and following his retirement, with First Star Security in Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Mariann Kaufman on June 13, 1964, in Davenport.

He is survived by four children, Valerie Tollefson of Bonaparte, Rick (Connie) Kaufman of Central City, Lisa (Ira) Parizek of Rowley and Lorie (Jack) McMurray of Hiawatha; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leota Anderson of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mariann on Feb. 2, 2011; a brother, LeRoy Hepker; and two sisters, Ruby Andrews and Berdina Ulrich.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with the Rev. Sheri Andersen officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
