Divers, Janet Louise
Janet Louise Divers, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ventura, Calif., passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at St. Luke's Living Center West. A Celebration of Life gathering will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A second Celebration of Life and inurnment will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura, Calif., in January.
Janet was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Tacoma, Wash., the daughter of James M. and Harriet “June” (Thomas) Knox. She moved with her family from Tacoma to Los Angeles in 1930. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1945. Janet married Arnold Spargur; to this union two children were born: Valerie and Dwight. They were later divorced. Janet married John Divers, a retired U. S. Air Force sergeant, and father of three children, Christopher, Celeste and Craig. Janet and John traveled throughout Europe and the United States and enjoyed many interests. Janet worked in data processing most of her life, retiring from Northrup Gruman. She owned and operated Jan's Embroidery in Ventura, designing and implementing personal and commercial products.
Janet enjoyed learning to fly an airplane, creating a home retreat, gardening, bowling, sewing, drawing, singing, playing the organ, and spending time with her friends and family.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Claude) Stilwell of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Christopher Divers of Garland, Texas, Craig (Cindy) Divers of Bulverde, Texas, and Celeste (Thomas) Vint of Santa Paula, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Knox; husband, John Divers; her son, Dwight Spargur; and a grandson, Nathan Spargur.
Because of Janet's love for animals, the family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to a wildlife foundation or animal shelter of the donor's choice in her name.
Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.broshchapel.com.
