Joyce Marie Smith, 74, of Marion, passed away on May 11, 2020. The family will hold a private graveside service with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
Joyce Marie Horstman was born on Dec. 22, 1945, the daughter of Vernon and Martha (Gull) Horstman.
She graduated from Guttenberg High School. She started a job at Collins Radio (Rockwell Collins), where she retired after 37 years. She was united in marriage to Gary Smith on Nov. 28, 1967. She loved to go to Rockwell retirees' luncheons and the Rockwell craft club. She attended and participated in many church functions at Faith Lutheran Church. Pastor John always wanted some of her homemade potato salad. Joyce always was happy and had a personality that no one could forget. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Those left to honor Joyce's memory are her son, Randy W. Smith of Independence, Mo.; stepson, Alan Smith of Enumclaw, Wash., and stepgrandson, Kelby Smith of Enumclaw, Wash.; sisters, Janis (Horstman) Harbaugh of Coon Valley, Wis., June (Horstman) Werger of Garnavillo, Iowa, Julie (Horstman) Rohner of Guttenberg, Iowa, and Judy (Horstman) Tuecke of Guttenberg, Iowa; brothers, Jay Horstman of Guttenberg, Iowa, and Jeff (Hoss) Horstman of Guttenberg, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Horstman and Martha (Gull) Horstman; husband, Gary J. Smith; and stepson, David Smith.
