Support the Keystone Pipeline
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 7, 2013 1:28 pm
Based on my military experience, I am keenly aware of the need for a multifaceted approach to protect American national security; therefore, I support the proposed Keystone Pipeline. The American economy depends on oil imported from foreign nations. However, importing oil from nations representing a threat to U.S. national security is not as necessary today as it has been in the past.
Many Americans may not realize our neighbor to the north has incredible oil stores, and a desire to export this crucial resource to America. Canadian oil can easily be shipped to the United States via the Keystone XL Pipeline. More than a million barrels a day can be shipped to U.S. refineries, thus increasing energy security. Canadian oil offers the U.S. the opportunity to improve energy security, stimulate the economy, and improve ties to a neighboring country. Don't forget, 340,000 new jobs.
