Ruby, John W.
John W. Ruby, 80, of Coralville, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday, one hour before the service. Burial, with military honors, will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
John Wendell Ruby was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa, son of John and Alma (Miller) Ruby. After high school, John served in the Air Force Reserves during World War II. He worked for Bridgestone Tire Co. as a salesman for many years. During most of that time he resided in the Quad City area. John married Flora “Irene” Puffinbarger on Oct. 1, 1949, in Fairfield. After marriage the couple lived in Sterling and Moline, Ill., and Davenport, Iowa before moving to Iowa City in 1995. John was a long time member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed time spent with family and friends and cherished moments with his grandkids.
His family includes sons, Doug Ruby of Oxford and David (Laurie) Ruby of Silvis, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Gloria Ruby of Iowa City; grandchildren, Joshua Ruby, Jeff Bloomberg, Jonathan Ruby, Brandy Ruby, David Ruby, Lisa Sides, Jennifer Vandevoorde and Mariah Ruby; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Elizabeth; brother, Donald (Marilyn) Ruby; sisters-in-law, Marseine and Helen Ruby; as well as numerous extended family members.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Flora; son, Dan Ruby; parents; brothers, Leland and Jim Ruby; and sister, Connie Ridenour.
