Roloff, John Carl Jr.
John Carl Roloff, Jr., 82, formerly of Batavia, Ill., died at Regional Medical Center in Manchester on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. A private family memorial service was held at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service: 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia, Ill. Friends may call in the fellowship room beginning 9 a.m. until service time. Inurnment: Saturday in Batavia.
John was born on Jan. 16, 1927, in Berwyn, Ill., the son of John and Ethel (Spence) Roloff. John was raised and educated in the area, and graduated from Proviso East High School in Forest Park. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a medic. After returning from the service he attended the University of Illinois Extension Center and the University of Illinois at Navy Pier.
On Dec. 15, 1951, John was united in marriage to Jane Kahnt in Oak Park, Ill. They lived in Oak Park, Lombard and Batavia, Ill. John was employed as an engineer at Western Electric later known as AT&T. The last five years John was a devoted caregiver for his wife, Jane. They moved to Iowa in the spring of 2009 after his cancer diagnosis.
John was a member of the Aurora Sportsmans Club and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Jane E. Roloff; three children, Bruce J. (Diane) Roloff of Walsenberg, Colo., Susan (Henry) Montag of Manchester and Sally (Jim) Peters of Independence; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jane Runge.
