John Adamek Jr., 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. Visitation for John will be at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. Burial will follow at a later date.
John was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Chicago, the son of John Adamek Sr. and Veronica Adamek. John was a retired carpenter who had worked for R.W. Rinderknecht, was a superintendent at O.F. Paulson, and completed his career by working out of the Carpenters Hall for companies like Abell-Howe and Abild.
John was an artist at heart and had created many paintings and sketches over the years. John has a life membership with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
John's hobbies were spending time with his family and friends, painting, hunting, fishing and enjoying nature.
John is survived by his grandson, Todd Bailey and his wife, Terri Bailey; granddaughter, Selina Bailey Brown; stepson, Dan Mears; daughter-in-law, Jolene Mears; granddaughters, Amanda and Amber Mears; and grandson, Sean Mears. In addition, John had six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mae Adamek; his second wife, Patricia Adamek; his daughter, Charlotte Bailey; and his son, Michael Adamek.
