Schropp, Kenneth 'Fritz' V.
Kenneth “Fritz” V. Schropp, 80, of Oxford, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, where a vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Visitation also will be held at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Fritz was born Nov. 24, 1930, in rural Oxford, the son of Isaac and Mary (DeGood) Schropp. He was raised in the Oxford area and attended country schools. On Aug. 4, 1954, Fritz married Louise Kinney at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. Fritz spent most of his life farming in the Oxford area and worked for Wendler Engineering for 23 years.
He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Fritz loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed the moments he spent with his grandchildren.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Louise of Homestead; and their children: daughter, Janice Thompson of Williamsburg, son, Randy (Cheryl) Schropp of Iowa City, daughter, Jayne (Scott) Brumwell of Solon, and son, Mike (Stacey) Schropp of Tiffin; two brothers, Donald of Oxford and Mike (Marie) of Ames; a sister, Laurie Stratton, and his stepmother Betty (Bob) Benz, both of California; 13 grandchildren, Toby, Stephanie and Tyler Thompson, Elijah, Isaac, Elizabeth and Abraham Schropp, Hannah (Jason) Grimm, Jenni and A.J. Brumwell, and Logan, Carter and Aiden Schropp; and a great-granddaughter, MacKenna Thompson.
Fritz was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell; a sister, Lucille; and a granddaughter, Candice.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford or the UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
