Edward "Ed" J. Vlasek, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service for friends and family will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Following the graveside service, the family will greet friends at a Celebration of Ed's life from
4 to 7 p.m. Friday at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids.
Ed was born Sept. 14, 1943, in Albany, Calif., the son of Edward and Agnes (Barta) Vlasek. He graduated from Regis High School in 1961 and went on to complete four years at a sheet metal trade school. Ed served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He married Deloris Moen on Feb. 1, 1969, in Cedar Rapids.
Ed worked as a tinner for 40 years before retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local 263. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and attending car shows with his beloved 1970 GTO. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ed is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Deloris Vlasek of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Todd (Heather) Vlasek of Mount Vernon and Jon (Danielle) Vlasek of Walford; seven grandchildren, Breyona Vlasek, Aubree Vlasek, Sydney Ulch, Brody Ulch, Isaiah Vlasek (fianee, Leslie Harder), Lydiah Vlasek and Elijah Vlasek; one sister, Rose Miller of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Agnes Vlasek; sister, Jeanne Tompkins; brother-in-law, Don Miller; and nephew, Brad Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed's name to either Alzheimer's research or Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
