MARY BROLIN
Cedar Rapids
A Celebration of Life luncheon in honor of the late Mary Grace Musgrave Brolin will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church, 715 38th St. SE, Cedar Rapids.
A longtime resident of McCarthy Road SE, Ms. Brolin passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a lengthy battle against cancer. She was 82 years of age and is survived by husband, Charles Augustus Brolin; son, Kane Karl Brolin; grandson, Max Elijah Brolin; and granddaughter, Cozette Ava Brolin, all residents of Mishawaka, Ind.
She also is survived by her granddaughter, Olga Noelle Nussbaum of Fountain Hills, Ariz.
Ms. Brolin was a loving spouse, a devoted grandmother and a longtime employee of the Cedar Rapids Community Schools, who embraced life, enjoyed travel and never shied away from a challenge.
A lifelong believer in the power of education, she requested that her remains be donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa's Carver School of Medicine. In writing, she requested that no viewing or formal funeral service occur in the aftermath of her death. She stood for fellowship but not formality, making it clear in her last days that she wanted no one to mourn her loss. So all who have loved Mary Brolin and who have known her family are encouraged to come to this Celebration of Life to break bread and to share memories of the positive impact this remarkable and strong woman had on the world around her.
