Joseph W. Hronek, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Joe is survived by two sisters, Theresa Kadera and husband Steve of Cedar Rapids and Beth Hronek of Powell, Wyoming; one niece; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Catharine (Morgan) Hronek.
Joseph was born July 26, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from La Salle High School in 1967. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972. Joe was a computer programmer, working on IBM mainframes for his entire career. He lived in the Minneapolis area for many years, but contract work took him to many locations around the United States. He returned to Cedar Rapids in 2008, where he worked for CRST until retiring in 2017.
Joe was raised a Catholic and had been a member of St. Patrick, St. Ludmila and later St. Wenceslaus churches. He was a long time member of the NRA and a very active member in his Minneapolis gun club. He enjoyed shooting rifles, shotguns and handguns, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
