He was born March 9, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Charles and Irene (Rogers) Noble. He was raised on a farm in Nashville Township, Martin County, Minn. He graduated from Huntley (Minn.) High School with the Class of 1954.
Jerry lived for many years in Cedar Rapids and Marion, originally working for Collins Radio. He attended and earned a degree from Mount Mercy College (now Mount Mercy University) in Cedar Rapids, with a major in speech and drama and a minor in history. He spent many years working in social services in Cedar Rapids and Marion, most recently retiring from Four Oaks Treatment Center.
Jerry struggled with depression and substance abuse for much of his adult life. Despite his struggles, he found joy in reading, photography, collecting old cameras, genealogy study and old movies.
Jerry is survived by his two sons, Randy Noble of Orlando, Fla., and Shawn (Laura) Noble of Iowa City; his grandchildren, Ethan Noble of Cedar Rapids and Owyn and Zoee Noble of Iowa City; his sister, Janice (Ronald) Dickenson of Fairmont, Minn.; niece, Sue (James) Olson of Fairmont; and nephew, Dave (Teresa) Dickenson of Mooresville, N.C. He also is survived by his former wives, Bertilla (Freund) Noble of Cedar Rapids and Annette Wright Merker of Marion.
The family wishes to thank the countless social workers, meal delivery workers, nurses and home health care professionals in both Linn County, Iowa, and Henry County, Ill., which provided services for Jerry over the past 11 years.
Additionally, Jerry found comfort and support from friends and sponsors he met through Linn County AA meetings over the years.
At Jerry's request, his body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for the advancement of science.
Arrangements were made by Haskett-Hott Funeral Home of Princeville, Ill.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
