CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids police have one person in custody after a bank robbery Friday afternoon.
According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, police responded to a call of a bank robbery at Community Savings Bank, 3414 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, around 1 p.m. Friday. Buelow said the suspect entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. He said he had a weapon, but none was displayed, Buelow said.
The suspect reportedly fled on foot, but minutes later, officers searching the area saw a car backing out of a parking spot in the 900 block of 28th Street SE. As they approached the car to identify the driver, they noticed that he matched the description of the robbery suspect. They also saw evidence of the robbery in plain view in the car, Buelow said.
The suspect, Lemarkis Duane Hobson, 31, was taken into custody without incident. He faces charges of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony, and second-degree theft, a Class D felony. He was also served with a Linn County arrest warrant on a separate charge.
After his arrest, Hobson was taken to a hospital. Buelow said he may have re-aggravated a previous injury during the robbery. After being evaluated at the hospital, Hobson was taken to the Linn County Jail.
The Community Savings Bank was also robbed earlier this month.
