JOHN HEIN Monticello John Casper Hein, 84, formerly of Monticello, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at Cedar Crest, Maquoketa. There will be no visitation or service per his request. A private burial will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, and two daughters, Cheryl Sheeley and Denise Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Gertrude (Arduser) Hein; his brother, Ivan Hein; and his sister, Loeda Hein. John was born at home on the family farm in Richland Township on Jan. 27, 1931, in Monticello, Iowa. He attended the schools in Monticello, graduating in 1948. At that time, John joined the Marines and served in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge at the end of the Korean War. After serving in the Korean War, John began working at Collins Radio. While at Collins Radio, John had the opportunity to work on various projects and the Apollo space program until his retirement in 1988. After his retirement, he traveled with his wife and enjoyed his grandchildren.
