Andrew "Andy" J. Cirkl, 78, of Robins, Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
Funeral service with military rites: 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Bateman officiating. A visitation and reception will follow from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Burial was held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie of Robins; son, Jack (fiancee Diane Mercil) of Marion; daughter, Vicki (John) Huntington of Marion; grandchildren, Stephanie Filer, Lindsay (Nathan) Russell, Jennifer (Dan) Hammes, Austin Filer, Adam Cirkl and Kyle Cirkl; and sister, Flora McIntosh of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Cirkl; half-brothers, Charles Cirkl and Harold Sheneberger; and half-sister, Lorita Walker.
Andrew James Cirkl was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Irene (Sheneberger) Cirkl. On Aug. 23, 1957, he married Dixie Melendy in Cedar Rapids. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for many years at Longview Fibre in Cedar Rapids. Andy was a former member of the American Legion Hanford Post #5 and Hawk "A" Region Model A Club. He enjoyed collecting antique cars and woodworking. He especially devoted his time to helping others.
