Oxford Junction woman admits benefits fraud

CEDAR RAPIDS - A woman who lied to the Federal Emergency Management Agency in an application to get disaster benefits after the Floods of 2008 pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court.
Jessica Hines, 32, of Oxford Junction, pleaded guilty to one count of disaster benefits fraud. In a plea agreement, Hines admitted to submitting a fraudulent application for benefits to FEMA on July 28, 2008. She falsely claimed to have lived at a residence in Oxford Junction at the time of the flood and that her home and personal property were damaged.
Hines faces up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing hasn't yet been scheduled.
