Viola Logina Reth of Delhi passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017. At the time of her death, she was being cared for at the Hickory Point Christian Village in Forsyth, Ill., near her sister, Irene Curtis, who was her health advocate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Delhi United Methodist Church with funeral services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Sam Mack. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.
Viola was born on the Reth family farm on Sept. 4, 1925, to William and Logina Reth.
Survivors include her sisters, Irene and husband Dean Curtis of Decatur, Ill., and Verna Euwer of Palmer, Alaska; and a brother, Melvin.
Viola's entire life career was based on giving loving care to others, first to the children she taught, who also included special needs children. She spent one year as a traveling teacher in Panama. When she took up nursing, her patients received her loving care.
Viola's educational background started with her graduation from Delhi High School. She received her B.A. in education from Greenville College in Greenville, Ill., and her M.A. degree in special education from the University of Iowa. Her R.N. degree was earned from St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She also taught and trained students for nursing at St. Luke's.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, William, Harold, Lloyd and Earl; and two sisters, Mildred Cooksley and Louise Ashland.
